Grammata

It got its name from the inscriptions found by archaeologists on the bay’s rocks. Sailors anchored there due to severe weather and carved their prayers on the rocks. They engraved their thanks to the gods for saving them on their journey or their pleas for a safe voyage afterward.

Mausoleum

Initially, in 1824, it was located behind the Holy Church of the Dormition of the Virgin. It relocated to its current location in 1834, where the church of Agios Georgios is. West of the temple, the School of Priests converted into an ossuary. We come across elaborate mausoleums and inscriptions, of which stand out famous people such as Mavrokordatou, Benaki, etc.

The Apollo Theater

The Italian architect Pietro Sambo, inspired by 4 Italian theaters, one of which is the Scala of Milan, constructed the Apollo Theater in 1864 in Hermoupoli. But shortly after 1953, it was deemed unfit for use. After restoration efforts, it was not until the 1990s that it regained its glory. With funding from the EU, the Ministry of Culture, the architectural supervision of Petros Gionis, and the artistic supervision of Dimitris Fortsa, the theater opened on July 17, 2000.

Chalandriani

In 1898, Christos Tsoundas made the first excavations and discovered the prehistoric acropolis in Chalandriani. His first found was the cemetery, considered the most extensive proto-Cycladic cemetery, with more than 600 graves. And then the rampart and part of the wall of the settlement.
